Tire Pulling For Improved Endurance

Hard-core runners are always looking for ways to improve endurance. Running while pulling a 20-pound tire is certainly a novel way to accomplish this. Whether you run on flat terrain or in a hilly area, this technique can improve your performance. (But be prepared to attract some attention: One of our staff who tried it was actually stopped by a police officer asking what he was doing.)

When adding tire pulling to your training regimen, it's important to use the right technique. A rope around your waist can cause injuries; improper posture can also add an injury risk. Get the right harness and keep initial training distances at 100 to 200 meters.

Some suggest that your harness be attached high up on your back (parachute style); this will provide resistance, but the strain on your back may be less when pulling from the waste. Try both and see what works best for you. 

Tire size can also be important. Try a smaller SUV tire. What tips do you have to share about tire pulling?
